Student Financial Welfare, Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships to Host FAFSA Lunch and Learn

LEXINGTON, Kentucky (October 10, 2022) — Student Financial Wellbeing, a unit of the Office of Student Success, and the Office of Student Financial Aid and Awards, will host a FAFSA Lunch and Learn from 2-3 p.m. on Wednesday, October 12, in room 330D of the Gatton Student Center.

Both offices will be on hand to guide students through the FAFSA process and offer a Q&A session. All students are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Throughout the year, Student Financial Wellness strives to support students’ financial journey through college.

The Student Financial Wellness Center offers one-on-one student-client sessions on everything to support a student’s personal understanding of money management. The end goal is to create the foundations for a prosperous and financially sound future.

In addition to 1:1 client sessions with full-time staff, students can also choose to meet with a MoneyCATS team member to work through basic financial principles that may have worked for them. These financial peer tutors use a tool called iGrad, a premier online platform, which engages students in a free educational environment with a wealth of tools and courses on budgeting, loan repayment, credit and finance. investment.

“The Financial Wellness Center is a critical resource for students as financial stress affects other aspects of their lives now and in the future,” said Colleen Scott, graduate assistant at the Financial Wellness Center. “Our center helps students prepare for success in budgeting, understanding credit, and college affordability. Students can improve their overall well-being by increasing their financial literacy through our resources.

The goal of the office is to help students according to their needs while engaging them in the fundamentals of financial literacy. To achieve this goal, the center often works closely with the Financial Aid Office, Student Accounts and Financial Ombudsman to ensure that students have access to the “big picture” of their education funding and are connected to the most advantageous resources possible.

The Financial Wellness Center is located in the new east wing addition of the Gatton Student Center on the third floor and includes a lounge with two public desktop computers for student use, as well as individual coaching rooms.
